West Ham want to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi

West Ham United are among a host of clubs who are keeping close eyes on Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi over a potential summer move, according to FC Inter News.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in Serie B with Monza but has since gone onto break into the Sassuolo senior side and shine in Italy’s top flight this campaign.

Frattesi has earned 10 Under-21 caps for Italy too but he is yet to be called up to the senior squad despite their embarrassing World Cup exit against North Macedonia.

Inter Milan appear to be leading the race for Frattesi at the moment but they have a lot of competitors in Juventus, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund as well as the Irons.

His contract with Neroverdi runs until 2026 [Transfer Markt] so until then, he will have to be bought if he is to leave the Mapei Stadium.

Assuming both Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek both stay beyond the end of this season, then Frattesi would come to the London Stadium as nothing more than a backup.

This might be where the Italian clubs that are also in the race edge ahead of the Hammers as he is far more likely to start in his native country than he is in England.

But if he does choose the Premier League over the Serie A, then this is the best place for him.

His abilities to play as both a defensive or a box-to-box midfielder almost exactly mimics that of both Rice and Soucek so to have him replacing either of them at any time shouldn’t disrupt the side too much.

David Moyes could be forgiven for being concerned at how little he’s played at the top level in Italy with this being his first season of top-flight football but his temperament in coping with the jump in quality and intensity should be all he needs to know.
