West Ham want to sign Neto to replace Lukasz Fabianski

West Ham are reportedly keen on signing wantaway Barcelona goalkeeper Neto.

According to Sport, Barcelona are looking to reduce their debt and would like to get the 32-year-old one-time Brazil international off their wage bill.

The report suggests that the Hammers are looking to replace Lukasz Fabianski, who is in the final year of his deal, for someone younger with ‘maximum guarantees’.

The report claims that Barcelona valued him at £15million in the summer, but are now willing to sell him as long as there is the obligation to buy.

More competition?

Neto has grown disgruntled by the lack of first-team opportunities at the Nou Camp and wants a way out of the club.

The last thing he would want at his new employers is for him not to be guaranteed a regular spot in the first team.

At West Ham, Fabianksi and Alphonse Areola are currently fighting for the number one spot and should the former leave, the latter becomes the de-facto first choice.

Neto would then have to prove himself to David Moyes and maybe the Scotsman will have already made certain promised to Areola to get him to sign on a permanent basis.

While it’s nice to have competitions in every position, we don’t think it’s in Neto’s best interest so he’s unlikely to want a move to the London Stadium.

The Hammers must ideally look for someone younger who’s waiting for a move to a bigger club and keeping him as the second choice will help him ease into the role as well.
