West Ham want to make late offer for Layvin Kurzawa

West Ham United are very keen to make an offer for Paris Saint Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa before the transfer window closes, according to Foot Mercato.

The Frenchman was previously a target for Chelsea as cover for the injured Ben Chilwell but the Blues opted not to make an approach which has left the door open for the Hammers.

They face competition however from Premier League rivals Newcastle United who are also likely to make an offer in their bid to stay away from relegation.

The 29-year-old was also subject of a bid from Serie A giants Napoli but there has been no further movement between the two clubs in that deal.

Is he needed?

This late into a transfer window, deals become less about what you want and more about what you need.

Kurzawa is a natural left-back and that isn’t an area that David Moyes needs to strengthen with Aaron Cresswell, Arthur Masuaku and Ben Johnson all able to fill that void.

He may have 13 caps for France, scoring once, but that isn’t enough to disrupt what is a working formula in the Irons backline.

Should he make the move to the London Stadium, he would simply be in the same position he is now where he cannot get a game because he isn’t good enough.

The Hammers really need to avoid this transfer and look towards bringing in a striker instead, where they are in desperate need of cover for Michail Antonio.

In other West Ham news, we think this Hammers-linked striker could be the shock of the season if he joins the club before 31 January.
