West Ham want Matheus Pereira as Jesse Lingard alternative
West Ham have identified West Brom attacking midfielder Matheus Pereira as an alternative for Jesse Lingard, according to Claret and Hugh.
Manager David Moyes is keen on the 25-year-old, and both clubs are already talking over a deal, but negotiations have not gone very far.
Lingard is open to staying at Old Trafford, and Pereira, who is Brazilian by birth and Portuguese by naturalisation [West Brom official website], is seen as a player with a similar profile to the England international.
More than a decent replacement
The West Brom star ended last season with 11 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League appearances, and is definitely capable of filling Lingard’s boots.
Pereira was largely the driving attacking force at the Hawthorns last season, and we really could do with his quality at West Ham.
The versatile attacker can also play on the wings and behind the striker, and his skills and tricks will surely get the fans at the London Stadium excited.
Pereira wants to play for Portugal [West Brom official website], but would likely answer should Brazil come calling, and he has to impress next season and outdo his return from 2020-21 to have a chance of playing for either country at the World Cup.
West Ham are an attractive option for him as we play in Europe, and West Brom are expected to sell in order to use the proceeds to strengthen their squad this summer.
Agreeing to personal terms would not be an issue, but both clubs would need to reach an agreement over fees, and that could prove tricky.
As it stands, Pereira is seen as plan B should a move for Lingard fall through, but he should be more than that going by his talents and his performances from last term.
