West Ham want Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger
West Ham want to sign Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger after an injury to Angelo Ogbonna, according to WestHamFans.Org.
The Italian is out of the season following an operation on his anterior cruciate ligament, and the Hammers now want to reunite the Germany international, 28, with his former teammate Kurt Zouma.
Talks between the centre-back and the Blues have broken down despite being offered a £150,000-per-week deal, with the player holding out for a £200,000-per-week offer.
Rudiger is out of contract at the end of the season and will be very much in demand once he becomes a free agent.
Chelsea could be forced to sell him in January in order not to lose for free, but that is not likely to be on the cards given his importance in manager Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
West Ham are punching above their weight this season, and while they, realistically, have a slim chance of landing the German if he becomes free, just anything is possible.
Should they finish in the top-four and win silverware this season, the Hammers will attract the big boys, and switching Stamford Bridge for the London Stadium could appeal to him.
Meeting his wage demands could be difficult for West Ham, but signing him on a free means they should be able to afford to pay him a hefty pay packet.
Rudiger – dubbed “absolutely brilliant” by former Chelsea and Germany defender Robert Huth [via talkSPORT] – will massively improve David Moyes’ backline and make them tougher to defeat.
It is a signing that looks too good to be true for such a side, but they got a deal done for Zouma, and nothing should be ruled out.
