West Ham United now unlikely to sign Filip Kostic after Maxwel Cornet agreement

West Ham are reportedly not going to pursue Filip Kostic as they look set to sign Maxwel Cornet from Burnley.

According to Football London journalist Jonty Colman, the Hammers have been looking for a left-sided player who can play as a wing-back as well and have found that in the Ivorian.

This also means that the Hammers are unlikely to continue with their pursuit of Frankfurt left-back despite David Moyes being an admirer

Great move

Cornet solves not one but three different problems for West Ham and this is a signing that we are excited about.

Not only is he a left winger who can offer a goal threat, but he’s also capable of playing at left-back – a position the Hammers have craved a new addition since last summer.

Aaron Cresswell has declined over time and is no longer the terrifying left-back he once was and that’s down to the fact that he’s on the wrong side of 30.

His injury record is still pretty decent but he’s often caught out of position and does not have the legs to cover up which means that he must not be relied on to play regularly.

Cornet can also play as a striker so if Moyes wants to play two up front, he could have Gianluca Scamacca and the Ivorian leading the line.

He can also play a back three with Cresswell moving to left centre-back and Cornet playing as a wing-back.

This deal opens up a lot of interesting prospects for the Hammers and hopefully, they should now agree personal terms as soon as possible.

He would also be a better long-term prospect than Kostic so it worked out pretty well.
