West Ham United will make £12m bid for John Egan in January

West Ham will make an offer in the region of £12m for Sheffield United defender John Egan, as per The Sun.

The newspaper reported on 10 September that the defender emerged as a “top target” for the Hammers in January.

The Championship club refused to deal in the summer, but they will revisit the deal in January.

The Sun suggest that the Blades may consider selling the player despite being on course for a return to the Premier League.

Interesting

The Hammers bolstered their defence in the summer window, by adding the likes of Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd.

However, they also sold Issa Diop. Craig Dawson stays on, while Angelo Ogbonna has returned to action recently.

This is one area that requires attention. This is definitely going to be Ogbonna’s last season at the club, while Dawson could leave in the summer.

Aston Villa showed interest in Dawson during the summer, while Wolves remain one of his admirers.

In such a scenario, David Moyes needs more than one defender to add depth to his backline.

Egan has established himself as a fantastic defender in the Championship. He is a leader at the back, and it seems Moyes is very impressed with him.

The price quoted for Egan seems a bit too high. For a player, who will turn 30 next month, West Ham should force Sheffield to reduce their asking price.
