West Ham United want to sign Manchester United defender Alvaro Fernandez, £5m wanted
West Ham United are interested in signing Manchester United’s young academy product Alvaro Fernandez, according to journalist Alvaro de Grado.
According to the Spanish journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (14 August), the Red Devils are holding out for a fee of around £5m as a whole host of clubs enter the race to sign him including Burnley and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Old Trafford wonder is expected to leave the club this summer as he may find his opportunities under Erik ten Hag limited with Luke Shaw and Tyrel Malacia fighting for the left-back spot in Manchester.
And according to de Grado, West Ham are among several clubs interested in giving him opportunities elsewhere.
He tweeted: “Álvaro Fernández Carreras (2003), on the Manchester United exit ramp.
“Teams interested in the Galician footballer: Granada, UD Las Palmas, Espanyol, West Ham, Burnley and Eintracht Frankfurt.
“United are asking for around €7M (£5M).”
Left-back needed
With London Stadium veteran Aaron Cresswell destined to seek pastures new this summer, the Hammers will be squirming to seal a long-term replacement.
And it is absolutely refreshing to see West Ham United target young, hungry and vibrant names to take Cresswell’s place in the team and Fernandez is certainly the latest talent to emerge.

The 20-year-old defender is highly-regarded at Old Trafford and it is perfectly understandable to see Manchester United open to allowing him an exit route this summer, as he needs game-time and room to grow elsewhere.
The London Stadium could certainly provide him with that refreshing opportunity and seems an excellent move for all parties involved.
Fernandez enjoyed a brilliant loan spell at Preston North End last season and is a burgeoning young prospect, who possesses tremendous technique, speed, dribbling qualities and a very capable defensive ability to form into one of Europe’s best young full-backs if he isn’t already.
With new technical director Tim Steidten desperately in search of some bright young talents to add to Moyes’ squad this season, Fernandez represents a stunning opportunity, one which the Irons could help mould into one of the league’s top left-backs.
In other West Ham news, the club’s stance on another potential signing has emerged with the deal still yet to be complete.
