West Ham United want to sign FC Midtjylland wonderkid Gustav Isaksen
West Ham United are in a hotly-contested race to sign FC Midtjylland winger Gustav Isaksen, according to Calcio Mercato.
The 21-year-old has been in the Danish Super League side’s team for four seasons now but the 2022-23 campaign has been his most prolific so far having already matched his goal tally from last season.
The Irons are among a host of clubs hoping to make a January move for the Danish Under-21 international who has even played European fixtures this season, scoring twice in the Europa League.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, table-topping Arsenal and Billionaire-owned Newcastle United are also keeping a close eye on Isaksen while there is additional interest from Italian giants AC Milan and Fiorentina.
FC Midtjylland are not in a position to hold onto Isaksen compared to the financial power of the interested clubs so they have put a price tag of £17.2million on the 21-year-old which could rise if a bidding war occurs.
Next Bowen
For West Ham to be targeting a new right-winger could perhaps signal that David Moyes and the club’s owners are not convinced that Jarrod Bowen is going to be staying for the long haul.

Having gone from Hull City in the Championship to playing for England via the London Stadium, it would only be natural for clubs to be interested in him and he in them if they are able to offer bigger wages or more lucrative competitions.
So if he does end up leaving, there must be a replacement somewhere ready to go and West Ham clearly think Isaksen could be that with the right education at the Irons.
The interest of Arsenal, Newcastle and AC Milan, in particular, should be enough of an indication to Rob Newman and company that he is a player with potential coming out of his ears and £17.2million could be seen as a complete bargain down the line.
