West Ham United want to gatecrash contract talks to make Andoni Iraola their next manager

West Ham will attempt to gatecrash contract talks between Andoni Iraola and Rayo Vallecano by making the Spaniard their new manager, according to Cadena SER and Paco Delgado.

Former Spain international Iraola is currently in the dugout at La Liga outfit Vallecano, who are keen to extend his current deal.

But the Hammers are also reportedly eager on his services as they look to replace David Moyes this summer.

Iraola took over at Vallecano in 2020 when they were in the Spanish second division, with the club now sitting pretty in ninth place in the top division.

“West Ham want Iraola,” according to SER and Paco Delgado. “Rayo want to sit down with him this week, to renew his deal, but the Premier League side want him, based on his record at Rayo.”

Exciting role

It seems increasingly likely that Moyes will be shown the exit door at the end of the season, regardless of how his team finish in the Premier League and the Europa Conference League.

Whether the manager would go down fighting remains to be seen, but in any case his exit would be a sad moment for himself and the club.

The Scot undoubtedly has his critics, but even they should respect him for the job he has done over the years, and more importantly what he may achieve this season with European silverware in West Ham’s sights.

If Premier League safety and the Europa Conference League trophy are secured and Moyes is moved on, the new manager will be licking their lips at the prospect of taking the club a step further.

They will be welcomed with plenty of money to spend and plenty of promise to build on, with the club’s passionate supporters undoubtedly set to back whoever comes in.

Iraola may not be the most exciting potential candidate, but he may be the man to help progress a club with huge potential on and off the pitch.
