West Ham United want Luis Enrique as next manager as Napoli lurk with David Moyes future uncertain

West Ham United want to appoint Luis Enrique as their next manager if David Moyes opts to leave, but Serie A champions Napoli are also interested.

The Hammers ended a 43-year wait for a trophy when they won the Europa Conference League this week, with Moyes entering West Ham folklore.

There has been some talk he could leave the club despite having one year remaining on his contract however, and according to TuttoMercatoWeb editor Marco Conterio, former Champions League winner Luis Enrique is a potential candidate although Napoli are also lurking.

“Aurelio De Laurenitis hasn’t lost hope for Luis Enrique who saw Tottenham fade away, but the coach is still waiting for the Premier League,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (9 June).

“On Enrique there is West Ham, fresh off a European victory, but David Moyes still has one year remaining.”

Unlikely

Enrique is a new name mentioned with the vacant manager’s job, and it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be coming to the London Stadium any time soon.

It’s already been claimed that Moyes will stick around after a meeting with club bosses, but of course that isn’t guaranteed until the new campaign starts.

But Enrique has always seen himself as a top level coach and dropping even to the Europa League is something he isn’t likely to do.

He is holding out for a job in the Champions League in England, but it’s more than possible that Napoli could sway his attentions after winning the Serie A title.

This seems like a late ploy by his agents to try and get any suitors to jump, but West Ham was the wrong club to choose for that and he won’t be coming here.
