West Ham United v Burnley scoreline predicted by Chris Sutton, relegation claim made

West Ham will defeat Burnley at the London Stadium on Sunday (10 March), according to BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton.

The pundit has predicted the Hammers to win the Premier League clash 2-0, with Sutton believing the Clarets are already condemned to the Championship.

The East London club sit seventh in the Premier League table going into the match, with Burnley in 19th place.

“Burnley are down as far as I am concerned,” Sutton told BBC Sport (7 March). “As a team they are pretty, but without a lot of punch.

“West Ham fans have been moaning they are bored with ‘Moyes-ball’ but their team has scored seven goals in their past two games to just ram down how well it works. I am delighted for David Moyes that he got those wins over Brentford and Everton to lift his side back up to seventh.

“The Hammers travelled to Germany on Thursday in the Europa League so I am not sure how Moyes will manage his squad over the next few days. On that basis I’d usually quite fancy Burnley to get a point but, defensively, I don’t see them holding out.”

Will West Ham overcome Burnley at the London Stadium?

Burnley have struggled massively following their promotion from the Championship, alongside Luton Town and Sheffield United.

But they may take some confidence ahead of their meeting with the Hammers given how David Moyes’s side will be fatigued after playing Freiburg on Thursday (7 March).

It was a very demanding match for the West Ham players in their Europa League round of 16 first leg in Germany, where they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

That should certainly play into the favour of Burnley, who may just have been given an idea of how to break down Moyes’s well-organised side.

That said, the Clarets will be very low on confidence given their struggles on the pitch this season, with Vincent Kompany’s men winning just three of their 27 league matches so far.

The club’s last three outings typify their issues, with 10 goals conceded and zero scored against Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.
