West Ham United vs Aston Villa scoreline predicted by Jamie Carragher for Sky Sports

Jamie Carragher has predicted West Ham will fall to a 2-1 loss against Aston Villa at London Stadium on Sunday (10 March).

The Irons thrashed Freiburg 5-0 on Thursday (14 March) to advance in the Europa League, while Villa saw off Ajax in the Conference League.

West Ham’s league form has been shaky to say the least of late, however, and Carragher expects United to lose on home soil this weekend.

Tipping a 2-1 win for Villa in his Sky Sports Super 6 predictions, Carragher added: “I am predicting Aston Villa to win at West Ham, which means they will hold off Spurs for now in the race for the last Champions League spot.”

Where to watch West Ham United v Aston Villa

This match is being played on a Sunday due to both sides’ European commitments, but it is not being aired live on British television. Highlights can be seen on BBC’s Match of the Day 2 later in the day, though.

Villa have been superb this season and occupy fourth place in the Premier League, albeit Spurs can move above them if they win their game in hand.

That is following the Villans’ 4-0 loss at home to Tottenham last week, which appeared to knock the wind out of their sails prior to beating Ajax by the same scoreline.

Given the nature of the Premier League, and the inconsistent results we have seen, this game could easily end three-or-four-nil to either side.

If West Ham produce the same performance that we saw against Freiburg, there is no reason why they cannot defeat the division’s fourth-best side.

On the other hand, if they fail to turn up on the back of that big effort in midweek, Villa are capable of knocking in a few goals if Ollie Watkins is fit and firing.

With this being the last game for a couple of weeks, the result will help determine the mood around London Stadium for the next fortnight. David Moyes will therefore know the importance of victory.
