West Ham United exit update emerges on David Moyes and Tim Steidten amid transfer failure from Kaveh Solhekol on Sky Sports

Neither David Moyes or Tim Steidten are set to leave West Ham despite “question marks” over their futures thanks to the lack of signings this summer, according to Kaveh Solhekol.

The Sky Sports journalist reported live on Sky Sports News on Friday (4 August) that the manager and the technical director are “both staying” at the club “as it stands” and that the Irons “remain confident” they will get the signings they need before the transfer window shuts.

The two senior figures have reportedly clashed over targets, and so far the club has not signed a single player this summer despite selling Declan Rice for £105million to Arsenal.

Speaking on Sky Sports News after a long rundown of the situation at the London Stadium Solhekol said: “As things stand my information is that they are both staying, they are both remaining at the club.

“There’s still three and a half – four weeks of the window to go and West Ham remain confident that they will get the players they need.

“But of course we all understand the concerns their fans have because the clock is ticking, even though they did win a European trophy last season they were in a relegation fight for most of the season.

“West Ham fans know that after losing their best player Declan Rice they have to make some signings.”

Foolhardy?

The Hammers are apparently putting a brave face on but there is no way that the current situation can be what they wanted for this summer.

The Europa Conference League triumph was a fantastic achievement but it appears to have distracted from the fact that West Ham were woeful for large parts of the Premier League season.

With Solhekol reporting that the board decided to appoint Steidten in July thanks to the failure to get “value for money” from last summer’s £200m-plus spend it suggests that their mistake was sticking with Moyes as manager.

The Scot’s job was on the line for much of last season and only became safe after the win over Fiorentina, but bringing the respected German in doesn’t seem to mesh with keeping Moyes in place.

If they are both staying then clearly something has to change with the way they are working together, because so far it is has been a matter of numerous pursuits making slow progress at best, but none getting over the line.

Even the deal for Carlos Borges from Manchester City fell apart at the last minute, so there needs to be far more urgency if business is going to get done in time.

Moyes and Steidten must find a way to agree on who to go after as a priority and then make a concerted effort to do what is necessary to make it happen, or the side that almost got relegated last year will begin the new season as a weaker unit.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have done something “extremely rare” as they attempt to spend £140m before the window closes.
