West Ham United: Trevor Sinclair slams Vladimir Coufal after horror moment v Viborg
West Ham United gave themselves a handy advantage in the Europa Conference League playoff with a 3-1 win at home to Viborg.
Gianluca Scamacca opened his Hammers account with a textbook striker’s header in the first half before the talismanic Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio ensured it was a relatively comfortable night for David Moyes, who was sat in the stands due to a touchline ban.
But Trevor Sinclair was not happy with the way the Danes scored their goal at the London Stadium and he had some choice words for Vladimir Coufal on Twitter as the Czech filled in at left-back in Aaron Cresswell’s absence through suspension.
“Coufal hasn’t got a clue where the goalscorer is!! Can’t let the attacker see your number,” Sinclair said as the West Ham defender got outjumped at the back post by Jakob Bonde Jensen.
If Thursday night’s game proved anything, it’s that the Irons are in desperate need of a left-back in the transfer market to cover Cresswell when he is unavailable.
His red card against Eintracht Frankfurt last season kept him out of the clash with Viborg and it is obvious that Coufal is not cut out to be his replacement on that side.
Ben Johnson could go out and do a slightly better job when he is no longer needed at centre-half due to injuries but he is also not a natural in that position.
Moyes and West Ham have to pull their fingers out before the transfer window closes to bring in a challenger for Cresswell but they have already seemingly failed with Filip Kostic.
Maxwel Cornet is another who could play in the back four but he shone brightly playing on the left wing at the London Stadium and it was a performance that may see him start the next league game on Sunday.
