West Ham United transfer update on Danny Ings emerges on Sky Sports with FFP verdict

Sky Sports journalist Danyal Khan has questioned Danny Ings’ future at West Ham amid concerns over FFP and circulating January transfer rumours.

Wolves are a team interested in the 29-year-old attacker’s services on loan, but his £150,000-a-week salary is proving to be a major stumbling block in making any deal happen [HITC].

FFP seems to be a growing issue for many Premier League clubs, with potential punishments looming over everyone after Everton’s 10-point deduction for a single Profit and Sustainability breach.

“Any signing would be on loan because of FFP. Danny Ings is an interesting player though, having only played 10 times this season,” he said live on Sky Sports’ Good Morning Transfers on Tuesday (9 January, 9:43am).

“When you look at the stats, he might not have any goals, but he has not played more than 45 minutes in those games. This is a player who has 70 Premier League goals in his career.

“The question with him will be – ‘Will West Ham let him go?’. They have a few injuries up front – Lucas Paqueta, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen. It’s one to watch as the window progresses.”

Get him off the books

Ings’ presence at London Stadium is solving more issues than it is fixing. Even in Antonio’s absence, David Moyes has chosen to deputise Bowen as a striker, rather than utilise the Premier League and Championship veteran.

However, with the latest injury news about West Ham’s top goalscorer, there seems to be more faith in 19-year-old Divin Mubama to pick up the pieces, rather than trust Ings in the striker position.

There is no wonder why FFP is an issue in the case of Ings, with his eye-watering wage at West Ham making him the club’s highest earner, making it difficult to offload the player anywhere else.

His former team Southampton have shown an interest in Ings, but he has turned his nose up at the idea of playing Championship football again, as per The Athletic. Given his performances for the Hammers, Ings would be lucky to be given a second opportunity at St Mary’s Stadium.
