West Ham United transfer update emerges on pursuit of Norwich City defender Max Aarons

West Ham are reportedly set to make a move soon for Norwich defender Max Aarons who was once on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Athletic in 2020, the English right-back appeared to be the next big thing and was being valued at £45million.

The Mirror’s James Nursery claims that he’s on the Hammers’ radar this summer and they’re set to make a move soon for the 23-year-old.

Via Twitter, he wrote, “Arsenal closing on Declan Rice. A couple of other likely deals to look out for are Fulham willing to pay £11.5m for Sevilla’s Lucas Campos (despite Saudi interest) & West Ham to move soon for #NCFC right-back Max Aarons.”

Worth considering

Aarons may not have lived up to the very high standards set of him but he’s still only 23 and is only improving as a player.

Playing in the right system that makes the most of his attacking prowess may just be what he needs to take his career to the next level.

The Hammers play a counter-attacking brand of football under David Moyes and he would be perfect for the role.

Given Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson’s struggles recently, he’s the ideal option to play there and arguably an upgrade on both of them.

He also offers more going forward than Thilo Kehrer so if there’s a deal to be done at a good price, we expect the Hammers to get their man.

He was hailed as “outstanding” by former Norwich defender Jon Newsome in 2021 and he could replicate some of those incredible displays at the London Stadium as well.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are already preparing to cash in on the Declan Rice money as they hold a transfer meeting in London as they’re confident of sealing a £50million signing.
