West Ham United transfer update emerges as Juan Musso’s £17million valuation set to change

West Ham are eyeing a move for Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso, who will be available for less than €20million (£17.4million), according to Calciomercato.

The Argentine joined Atalanta from Udinese for €20million in July 2021, but can leave for below that figure this summer.

He has dropped to the bench in recent weeks, while it is expected that Marco Carnesecchi, currently on loan at Cremonese from Atalanta, could return to be the club’s number one.

Discussing the likelihood of Musso remaining at Atalanta to play a back-up role next season, Calciomercato noted: “Possible? Yes, but very difficult.

“It is more probable that the transfer market doors will reopen for the ex-Udinese player and at distant figures (the request is €20million, but it will drop) compared to those paid to bring him to Bergamo.

“Who can take it? The market has never silenced for him with the sirens of the Premier League (West Ham, Tottenham and Bournemouth) and La Liga (Villarreal and Betis) continuing to resound on the horizon.”

Battle for Musso

As is the case with every player that West Ham are linked with lately, it seems they will have a battle on their hands to land his services due to the interest from other clubs.

The 29-year-old has been forced to watch on from the bench in recent times, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini instead opting for Marco Sportiello between the sticks in this latter stage of the season.

West Ham will be aware of the situation with the ageing Lukasz Fabianski, who remains the club’s number one for the time being, but that could all change next season.

Alphonse Areola could be promoted to the number one spot next season, but it seems the Hammers will still be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer.

They definitely need to strengthen in various areas, but of course no dealings can be carried out until the future of David Moyes is resolved, with no news yet regarding the manager’s likelihood of being in the dugout next season.
