West Ham United transfer news: Fabrizio Romano shares Friday night update on on Fabio Carvalho amid likely Liverpool exit

There is “nothing concrete or advanced” in terms of Fabio Carvalho leaving Liverpool for West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Amid links between the Hammers and the Portuguese youngster German side RB Leipzig have been put forward as the most likely destination if he leaves Anfield this summer.

Fichajes.net reported on 8 March that the Irons had set their sights on the attacking midfielder, along with Aston Villa and Newcastle, having been interested in signing him from Fulham before he went to Merseyside [Daily Mail, 24 January 2022].

But reporting via Twitter on Friday evening (16 June) Romano wrote: “Nothing concrete or advanced between Fabio Carvalho and West Ham despite reports.

“Understand RB Leipzig remain as fav club to push and insist to sign Carvalho from Liverpool.”

Unlikely?

David Moyes does appear to want to strengthen his attacking midfield options amid a leading role in the race to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester and an apparent inquiry about Galatasaray’s former West Ham target Nicolo Zaniolo.

Carvalho has struggled to make an impact under Jurgen Klopp since his move a year ago, making just 13 Premier League appearances, and getting only 11 minutes league action since October.

He therefore looks like he needs at least a loan exit to get enough football to ensure his development doesn’t stall at a key age.

But if Romano is right that there is nothing to suggest a move to the London Stadium is imminent, while Leipzig “insist” on the deal, it looks like he is headed to the Bundesliga.

There are sure to be changes to the Irons side this summer despite the Europa Conference League win, as the domestic campaign was such a disappointment.

Barnes certainly seems like a more likely candidate to make an immediate impact, but he won’t come cheap if West Ham are going to come out on top.
