West Ham United transfer news: Condition emerges for Wolves defender Max Kilman move

West Ham will have to shell out a fee of £45million if they are to secure the services of Wolves centre-back and Tottenham-linked Max Kilman, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS Sports journalist reported that the Hammers will only look to sign him on the condition that Nayef Aguerd parts ways with the club.

Tottenham Hotspur had also looked at him in the summer before he ended up signing an extension at Molineux.

Via Twitter, Jacobs wrote, “Max Kilman one to watch for West Ham despite only signing a new five-year deal last summer. It would take close to £45m. No movement unless Nayef Aguerd departs.

“Spurs had also looked at Kilman in the build up to last summer as one option prior to him extending at Wolves.”

Too expensive

While Kilman has shown promise as Wolves’ captain, a £45million price tag for the centre-back seems exorbitant, especially considering West Ham’s need to raise funds for January spending.

The defender’s value may not be commensurate with the financial constraints faced by the Hammers and a more reasonable negotiation stance should be pursued.

On the other hand, retaining Nayef Aguerd, despite his struggles to a certain extent this season, is crucial for West Ham’s defensive stability.

Selling Aguerd and potentially overpaying for Kilman could be a risky move, leaving the squad with uncertainties at the back.

The Moroccan’s potential departure to Saudi clubs, even if not meeting expectations, might provide a chance for West Ham to recoup some funds.

It’s imperative for West Ham to carefully assess their defensive needs, consider realistic valuations and explore alternatives before committing to a high-priced replacement like Kilman.
