West Ham United transfer news: Bid update shared as David Moyes tracks ex Arsenal defender Dan Ballard for months
West Ham may reportedly launch a bid for Sunderland defender and former Arsenal youth player Dan Ballard this summer.
According to the Guardian [26 June], David Moyes has been tracking him for months and he’s understood to be a fan of the 23-year-old.
Ballard joined Arsenal at the age of eight but failed to make a senior appear for them before leaving them in 2022.

Good enough?
Ballard has not yet been proven at a level above the Championship so it’s a gamble that West Ham may not want to take.
The fact that he’s just there for a season and enjoyed a good fight for promotion will mean that the Black Cats will demand a decent transfer fee for him.
Instead of signing someone from there, the Hammers have the money and resources to look at players in Europe’s top five leagues.

Signing players like Nayef Aguerd and perhaps even turning to Nikola Milenkovic again may just be what they need to do.
Ballard could be decent but they need to watch him for a bit before spending big money on the 23-year-old.
The 23-year-old can play in midfield as well and if he’s being signed as someone to serve as a backup in multiple positions then it makes sense to sign the “Fabulous” Sunderland ace.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are already preparing to cash in on the Declan Rice money as they hold a transfer meeting in London as they’re confident of sealing a £50million signing.
