West Ham United transfer news as Sunderland attacker Jack Clarke now wanted at London Stadium

West Ham United are interested in signing Sunderland attacker Jack Clarke, according to The Mirror.

The UK newspaper outlet (6 January) shared that the Hammers are interested in signing the Englishman with the 23-year-old’s stock rapidly on the rise after his superb displays so far this season.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign with the North East club, scoring 12 Championship goals and registering two assists, previously dubbed “wonderful” by former Mackems boss Tony Mowbray (Leeds Live, 22 September).

It is said that Premier League clubs are beginning to keep tabs on his eye-catching performances, though he is likely to remain at Sunderland until the summer transfer window.

Clarke certainly isn’t one of those talents bursting on the scene for the first time as clubs and fans were already accustomed to his tremendous gifts before his failed move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Since he joined Sunderland though, he’s taken his game to whole new levels already scoring 12 goals this season after registering a whopping nine goals and 12 assists during the 2022/23 campaign.

West Ham

West Ham United are desperately short of attackers right now, with the likes of Said Benrahma, Maxwel Cornet and Pablo Fornals all linked with January exits and Clarke, given his age profile, potential, homegrown status and quality would be an ideal bet for David Moyes to pursue.

Signing homegrown Championship talents has always been the way to go at the London Stadium, just look at Jarrod Bowen since his move from Hull City back then.

Clarke is certainly the next player to emerge from the English second division and tear up the Premier League when given the opportunity. There may be no better club for Clarke to continue his rapid rise than the mighty West Ham United.

With a January move unlikely, the Hammers should definitely have him at the top of their wishlist for the summer window.
