West Ham United transfer news as Sheraldo Becker changes agents ahead of possible £18m move

West Ham United have made an enquiry to sign Union Berlin striker Sheraldo Becker this summer, according to The Mirror.

Becker enjoyed a tremendous campaign in the German top flight last term, scoring 11 goals and registering seven assists from 32 appearances and the Daily Mail reported on 15 May that the German club were braced for offers this summer.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reported [16 May] the Hammers’ interest in the player with Fulham and Burnley also interested in Becker’s services, while Fabrizio Romano also confirmed West Ham’s interest with the striker expected to seal a big move this summer.

And according to the Mirror newspaper [27 June, page 48], Union Berlin have made Becker available for around £18m as he is entering the final year of his contract.

The 28-year-old recently changed agents in order to seal a big move this summer.

Antonio replacement on the cards

With West Ham United set to undergo a major rebuild after their European heroics, there will be a desperate shake-up during the summer transfer window at the London Stadium, with a few key players set to leave including Declan Rice and Michail Antonio.

And David Moyes will have the huge task of replacing them this summer and a striker is desperately needed with big-money Italian Gianluca Scamacca also destined to depart.

Antonio’s presence will surely be missed in East London which means West Ham United will need a powerful replacement and Becker represents the ideal solution, especially given his tremendous campaign so far this season.

As well as possessing the unique qualities to score and create goals, Becker holds similar attributes to the Jamaican international in that he is incredibly quick, agile, strong and a terrific workhorse off the ball and an influential presence on the break suggesting that the West Ham United faithful certainly won’t miss Antonio too much too soon.

The 28-year-old speed merchant certainly looks ready for a move elsewhere and is at an age where he needs to be looking to progress in his career and West Ham must take advantage of this opportunity.

Better yet, there may well be no better platform than the London Stadium, with the Irons now playing Europa League football next season.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are now in pole position to land a Premier League-established winger with a £40m price tag on his head.
