West Ham United transfer news as Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards wanted
West Ham United have been watching the progress of Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards for some time and are keen on a summer move, according to Football League World.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who was born in Harlow in Essex, has enjoyed a tremendous campaign for the Sky Bet League One outfit, despite their dramatic playoff semi-final collapse against Sheffield Wednesday, featuring 42 times for The Posh.
Edwards has propelled himself to become one of the most highly-rated and sought-after talents in the English Football League, and according to a report he’s long been attracting admirers from the Premier League.
According to Football League World [24 May], both West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur have been watching the talented defender for some time.
“The Posh are facing another season in League One after Sheffield Wednesday’s remarkable comeback in last week’s play-off semi-final second leg, which could mean they face a battle to keep hold of some of their key players this summer.
“Edwards is likely to be among those and sources have exclusively informed FLW that a number of clubs, including Spurs and West Ham, have been watching the defender for some time.

Change of direction
West Ham United are set to undergo much change to the squad this summer, with many of their first-team stars set to be seeking pastures new for next season, including the likes of Vladimir Coufal and Angelo Ogbonna.
The defence is likely to be one of the priority positions for the Hammers to strengthen this summer, and considering the interest in Edwards’ signature, it is likely to be out with the old and in with the new.
West Ham United have always been known for its youthful recruitment drive and for becoming a well-known hub for allowing fledging up-and-coming talents to grow in East London.
In order to taste long-term success and sustainability again, that is the direction the club must turn to once again and Edwards is certainly an attractive proposition for the club bosses.
The 20-year-old has long been one of the most exciting defensive talents in the EFL and is certainly ready for a big step in his career, and there may well be no better platform than at West Ham United. This is a potential deal the Irons simply cannot afford to pass up on.
