West Ham United transfer news as Pablo Fornals move ready to be advanced

Sevilla are keen to advance their plan to sign West Ham United midfielder Pablo Fornals and will look to sign him in January, according to Vamos Mi Sevilla.

The Spanish outlet reported on Thursday (2 November) that the La Liga side is keen to strengthen in the final third and one of their first options will be the Hammers star, whose contract at the London Stadium expires at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Sevilla were keen to add Fornals to their ranks during the summer transfer window, but were unable to match the Irons’ financial demands, while David Moyes has opted to use the 27-year-old sparingly in the Premier League, where he has only started once this season.

Diego Alonso’s side believes that it will be easier to sign Fornals in January than it was in the summer, given he will have entered the final six months of his West Ham contract, but the Spanish giants are also keen to add another striker to their ranks to bolster their attack.

Let him go

It seems inevitable that Fornals will depart the London Stadium this summer having barely played in the Premier League so far this season and it could well be best for all parties involved if the Irons allow him to join Sevilla during the January transfer window.

There has been little evidence in the Spanish midfielder’s brief cameos this season to suggest that he deserves to start ahead of the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma in the wide areas and he has been hooked by Moyes in all three of his Europa League starts.

If there is one area of the pitch in which West Ham can afford to lose a squad player it is out wide and there is more than enough talent already currently at the London Stadium for the Hammers to cope without the Spaniard for the second half of the campaign.

Selling him in January will not only see the Irons receive a transfer fee, which is unlikely to be huge given his contract situation but will also mean that they will not have to pay his wages for the remainder of the season.

That money that is then available could be spent to strengthen the areas of the pitch in which Moyes’ options are limited, such as a new goalscoring number nine or even an additional defensive option.

Either way, it seems as though Fornals’ stay in East London is coming to an end, whether in January or the summer.
