West Ham United transfer news as ‘miracles’ needed for Maxwel Cornet to complete late Crystal Palace transfer
Alan Nixon has suggested that it will take “miracles” for Maxwel Cornet to join Crystal Palace from West Ham United ahead of the transfer deadline.
The winger had been linked with a move to Selhurst Park in the final moments of the January window, with reports even suggesting that the Ivorian forward had agreed terms with Roy Hodgson’s side [Ed Aarons, 1 February].
However, Cornet was named on the Hammers’ bench for their Premier League clash with Bournemouth at the London Stadium on Thursday (1 February) and Sun journalist Nixon has suggested that ends Palace’s hopes of completing the deal.
Responding to a Crystal Palace fan on X (1 February), Nixon said Palace’s business would be finished, “barring miracles”.
Keeping some depth
West Ham have already taken some risks during the January transfer window by allowing both Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals to depart the London Stadium without bringing in another wide option themselves.
Had they opted to let Cornet leave as well without finding a suitable replacement, David Moyes would have been left incredibly short of options for the remainder of the season. which would have been a huge blow especially when the European campaign restarts.
Cornet may not have been a regular since making the switch to East London, but he has shown in flashes that he has more than a bit to offer in a West Ham shirt. His performance in the draw with Sheffield United was incredibly bright.
Hopefully, no late miracles do happen to allow Palace to get this deal over the line and Cornet will remain in claret and blue at least until the end of the season. The Irons will then be able to reevaluate their position at the end of the campaign.
