West Ham United transfer news as fee emerges for defender Nuno Tavares after Declan Rice sale

West Ham are reportedly eyeing a cut-price deal for Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares after selling Declan Rice to them post the bidding war with Manchester City.

According to the I [29 June], David Moyes wants to bring in Tavares to provide competition to Aaron Cresswell at left-back.

The Gunners want to cash in on the 23-year-old with an £8million fee mooted this summer.

Not really needed?

Emerson is still 28 and he’s proven that he can be a decent first-choice option so unless Cresswell is leaving, the Hammers do not need another left-back.

They will be making loads of money from the Rice sale and it’s important that they do not splurge it on players and positions that they do not need to.

Even Maxwel Cornet can play as a makeshift left-back if needed so they’ve got plenty of cover for Emerson and Tavares’ signing makes little to no sense.

West Ham

Reinforcements need to be in midfield and the final third – contingent on Gianluca Scamacca’s future and the plans for Michail Antonio.

Regardless, a wide attacker is desperately needed which makes the pursuit of Leicester City ace Harvey Barnes understandable.

It will be surprising if West Ham do end up pursuing Tavares seriously as they can do better with that money.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are already preparing to cash in on the Declan Rice money as they hold a transfer meeting in London as they’re confident of sealing a £50million signing.
