West Ham United transfer news as doubts emerge over Wolves move for Aaron Cresswell
Wolves are yet to agree a fee with West Ham United over the signing of veteran left-back Aaron Cresswell, according to Jacob Steinberg.
The Guardian journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (21 July) reports that there are doubts over whether Wolves have the funds to even complete the deal, with West Ham wanting £5m to sell [The Guardian, 19 July]
Cresswell joined the East London outfit from Championship club Ipswich Town in 2014, and has 331 West Ham appearances to his name and is reportedly willing to move to the Midlands.
And in Steinberg’s tweet, he wrote: “Wolves yet to agree a fee with West Ham for Aaron Cresswell – doubts over whether they have the funds to buy the left-back.
“West Ham looking at Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen and Rennes defender Adrien Truffert as potential replacements. Maatsen has impressed Pochettino.”
May stay after all
Cresswell was a major part of the West Ham squad that achieved major European glory after almost 60 years. To leave the club now, after nine years and having won silverware, is the perfect way for him to bow out and move on to pastures new elsewhere.
The Hammers veteran has done all he can in East London and it would be best for all parties involved if he moves on, with the club desperately seeking more young and fresh names to take the left-back mantle from next season.

However, after Steinberg’s latest update, it doesn’t seem as if Cresswell’s move will be plain-sailing with Wolves struggling to cough up the funds to seal the £5m transfer.
It certainly seems as if the ball remains in the West Ham United court regarding the defender, do they accept a lower fee from Wolves after their reported £2.5m bid or do they stick to their asking price?
Following the £105m sale of Declan Rice, the East Londoners certainly have enough in the back to sign a replacement, but it is clear adding to the midfield remains the priority.
But, if Cresswell desires a move elsewhere, West Ham United certainly shouldn’t stop him. He deserves that much after all he’s achieved at the club.
In other West Ham news, one striker may be set to leave the club after a recent transfer twist.
