West Ham United transfer news as double update drops at London Stadium

West Ham United will be looking to sign a centre-midfielder and a striker to boost their squad in the summer transfer window, according to Roshane Thomas.

After what’s been a rather difficult domestic campaign, the Hammers will certainly be undergoing much change during the off-season as they look to return to the upper echelons of the Premier League table.

Key stars such as Declan Rice and Michail Antonio are set to be on their way out of the London Stadium with the former set for a big-money move away to a top English club and The Athletic journalist Thomas [19 May] ran the rule over the Hammers’ potential transfer business this summer.

Writing in Friday morning’s The Athletic piece on the Premier League club’s plans for the summer, he wrote on West Ham United:

“West Ham United are planning for life without Declan Rice. Manager David Moyes revealed there’s “a good chance” his England international club captain will leave this summer. The club are interested in signing Marseille’s former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi as a replacement.

“Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and centre-back Angelo Ogbonna are both going to be out of contract at the end of the season and it is yet to be determined whether their one-year options will be activated. Given those two are 38 and 34 respectively, with Ogbonna turning 35 next week, West Ham may look to find their long-term replacements in the coming window.

Huge summer

It’s set to be a huge summer of change and transformation at the London Stadium this summer, and it certainly won’t just be on the pitch that things could look different come the first game of next season, but on the managerial front too.

Reports in recent months have suggested that Moyes could well be leaving West Ham United, especially after his tremendous achievement of leading them to their first European final since 1976.

Names such as LOSC Lille manager Paulo Fonseca and Brendan Rodgers have emerged as possible replacements meaning the club could be under a different stewardship when they kick off for the 2023/24 campaign.

However, the playing staff will look totally different and a gaping hole will be emerging in the squad with club captain Rice set to call time on his West Ham United career with a big-money move on the horizon.

The Hammers will be desperate for a replacement for the England international and Guendouzi is definitely a name that will excite the fans at the London Stadium.

With Antonio potentially leaving also, a striker will be of critical importance to replace his mighty presence up top, that’s not to say Danny Ings and Gianluca Scamacca can’t fill the void, however.
