West Ham United transfer news amid late approach for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez

West Ham missed the trick on transfer deadline day after failing to get Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez over the line.

Toddy Cudworth, a 90Min journalist reported on 1 September that the Hammers made a late enquiry for the 22-year-old Argentina-born Mexico international.

However, nothing came of it and he stayed at the Dutch club with the London outfit failing to bring in a new striker.

Cudworth wrote on Twitter, “West Ham kicking off against Luton at 8pm, as it stands no transfer business likely. Understand there was a late enquiry for Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, Hugo Ekitike a current non-runner on loan as PSG only want to sell.”

Gimenez may not be a household name like Youssef En-Nesyri or playing at a big club like Ekitike, but he would’ve done the trick for the Hammers.

He’s won multiple awards in his relatively fledgling professional career being named the Liga MX All Star and also winning multiple Player of the Month awards.

The 22-year-old also is averaging a goal every other league game and while it’s easier to score in the Eredivisie, even if he gets 10 or 15 league goals per season in England’s top flight.

Not signing a new striker could prove to be costly, especially when they had the money generated from the sales of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca.

Michail Antonio cannot be relied upon for the entirety of the season so players like Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus may have to step up.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open to leaving his side this summer.
