West Ham United transfer budget shared as Lucas Paqueta factor mooted
West Ham will have £100million to spend in the summer transfer window if Lucas Paqueta is not sold, according to Sean Whetstone.
The journalist reported via his West Ham Football X account on Monday (27 May) that the Hammers will be able to combine winnings from the Premier League and Europa League and player sales.
With Julen Lopetegui’s arrival after David Moyes’ exit at the end of the season, the Irons could be preparing for a summer of change, with the club already agreeing their first signing in Fabricio Bruno.
“Assuming Lucas Paqueta does not leave this summer West Ham should have around £100m to spend on transfers,” he wrote.
“That is based on around £30m net spend budgeted for finishing 9th this season plus £30m of additional revenue from the Europa League plus £40m of player sales, assuming Benny [Said Benrahma] is sold £15m and [Flynn] Downes is sold around £15.5m on top of [Thilo] Kehrer already sold for £9.5m.
“Further player sales such as [Nayef] Aguerd, [Danny] Ings, [Michail] Antonio or James Ward Prowse would add more to the summer transfer pot.”
West Ham United set for summer of change under Julen Lopetegui
Having already made their first signing of the summer, as per Fabrizio Romano, the summer transfer window has already begun for the Hammers despite it not opening yet.
Under Moyes this season, there have been several issues that will need to be fixed ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, so the £100million will be a very welcomed figure for Lopetegui.
Of course, the transfer budget is destined to change throughout the summer, especially if the club have already signed Bruno from Flamengo, and several current players linked with moves away.
Aguerd, Downes and Ings all look like possible exits now, though Paqueta could be set to remain at the London Stadium after news of his charges from The FA emerged earlier this month.
It is certainly set to be an unusual few months for West Ham, who will need to come to terms with the controversy surrounding their Brazilian star and multiple players looking to leave the club.
In other West Ham news, the club have received a “significant” cash windfall after what happened in the last 24 hours.
