West Ham United: Tottenham should be in mix to land Declan Rice – Jamie Redknapp

Jamie Redknapp has suggested Tottenham should be in the mix to sign Declan Rice with the West Ham captain set to depart during the summer.

Rice has been continually linked with a move away from the London Stadium with Arsenal and Chelsea long-term admirers.

However, speaking live on Sky Sports on Sunday (30 April) the former Spurs midfielder suggested his former side should be looking to sign the 24-year-old.

West Ham

“Declan Rice. Arsenal are in the mix. Why can’t Spurs be in the mix? That’s the sort of level of player Tottenham need to be after right now but I don’t think that will happen,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports (quoted by Football London, 1 May).

Dream on

Arsenal or Chelsea seem like the most suitable destinations for Rice if he does leave the London Stadium this summer. He’s once again been a standout performer for Moyes’ side during the 2022/23 season and deserves a lot of credit.

He could have easily downed tools but instead, the midfielder has grown during the latter stages of the campaign and is desperate to ensure West Ham remain a Premier League club. The Irons are probably one win away from securing their league status and with a European semi-final on the horizon, it wouldn’t be the worst end to a season.

West Ham

Rice needs to be playing Champions League football and there are very few people at the London Stadium who would begrudge the midfielder a move during the summer. A footballer’s career is extremely short and if he’s given the chance to complete a big-money transfer, it’s one he simply has to go through with.
