West Ham United: Tomas Soucek will stay unless Champions League club makes offer

West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek won’t leave the club unless a Champions League side makes an approach, according to Paul Brown.

The Czech Republic international could be the subject of a £40million bid from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur this summer [Claret And Hugh] but despite their qualification for the Champions League he looks set to reject them due to the rivalry between the two clubs.

The 27-year-old has been a steady performer for David Moyes since he joined the club but has arguably been overshadowed by Declan Rice in the midfield.

Daily Star journalist Brown believes that the imposing midfield figure will stay at Rush Green having already had an offer from the Irons.

“They certainly don’t want him to leave; they’ve made him an offer. I doubt he does leave. I think he’s happy there,” Brown said to Give Me Sport.

“He only leaves if a Champions League club comes in for him with a really good offer. I think at the moment he’s quite content to stay.”

Reasonable

West Ham aren’t being unreasonable in any way in this situation with both the price mooted by Spurs above and the reasoning for keeping him both making logical sense.

Former West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is now a senior player for England

He is never going to bring in the massive £150million that has been touted around as Rice’s asking price but £40million wouldn’t be a terrible sum of cash to get for Soucek should Spurs, or anyone else, make the offer.

You can see why they would be reluctant to let him leave to a divisional rival though given how good he is and with no real senior cover behind him and the Englishman, Moyes could do with more bodies rather than selling one.

We cannot afford though to let him leave the London Stadium for anything less because everybody knows we are light in the midfield and the price of any player will get jacked up as a result so we crave every penny to help us add fresh blood in the team this summer.

In other West Ham news, Moyes was unconvinced about signing this teenager who has now opted to play in the Bundesliga instead.
