West Ham United told to make new Julen Lopetegui exit decision live on air
Fara Williams has told West Ham United to “stick with” Julen Lopetegui live on air despite a disappointing start to the season.
The former Real Madrid manager has had a slow start to life in East London having replaced David Moyes in the London Stadium dugout at the end of last season after the Scotsman’s contract wasn’t renewed.
Although BBC Sport pundit Williams believes Moyes was treated disrespectfully during his final months in charge of the Hammers, she believes it would be naive for the Irons to part ways with Lopetegui at this stage.
Speaking on Football Focus on Saturday (28 September) she said: “You’ve made a big decision, the way that Moyesy was treated was very disrespectful in my opinion.
“I think you have to stick with him, give him time. He has to rebuild this team and the fans are booing him off already, they’re not happy.”
Will West Ham sack Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium?
As Williams suggests, the Hammers probably do have to stick with Lopetegui a little while longer yet as they backed their new manager heavily over the course of the summer transfer window.
The former Wolves boss was given millions of pounds to spend on revamping the team left behind in East London by Moyes and while it is unclear whether it was him or Tim Steidten who led recruitment, he will have been involved.

Making a change in the dugout so quickly after that sort of summer would leave West Ham right back at square one. There is no obvious candidate vying for the job and it would be a mistake to turn back to Moyes for a third time.
Hopefully, results will begin to improve over the coming weeks so that the fans can get back on Lopetegui’s side.
It will only take a couple of wins for supporters to begin believing in the Hammers project once again.
