West Ham United told to break the bank to keep David Moyes after new Julen Lopetegui update

West Ham United should be “breaking the bank” to keep David Moyes at the London Stadium beyond the end of the season, according to Adam Catterall.

The Scotsman appears to be increasingly likely to leave the Hammers come the end of the season and the expiry of his contract, with Julen Lopetegui the current frontrunner to take over the reins.

While most pundits and supporters agree that the time has come for a change in the Irons dugout, talkSPORT host Catterall believes West Ham should be “doing everything they can” to secure his future.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (3 May, 22:30) he said: “I think West Ham should be breaking the bank to keep him. I think they should be doing everything that they can to keep him in charge.

“People will come to me and say ‘yeah but the style of football’, forget that, the guy is doing the business.”

Will David Moyes leave West Ham United amid Julen Lopetegui links at the London Stadium?

There will always be pundits who claim that the Hammers fanbase should be careful what they wish for, but that sort of messaging has begun to fall on deaf ears. Most fans feel as though Moyes has hit his ceiling this.

While Catterall dismissed the complaints about the negative style of play, that has become a genuine issue, particularly in 2024 where the attacking talent at the London Stadium have been shackled by Moyes’ defensive style.

Whether or not that would change massively under the management of Lopetegui remains to be seen. The former Real Madrid boss isn’t known for being the most dynamic, but he has been a proven winner throughout his career.

Regardless of Catterall’s pleas and those of a number of pundits across the English game, it doesn’t appear as though Moyes will be handed a new deal and it is even less likely that the Irons will break the bank.
