West Ham United to target double forward signing in January window as defensive help nears

David Moyes could be handed two new attackers to aid his job of turning around the season at West Ham, according to The Sun.

The Hammers are after signings at forward positions despite spending £99million on Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca and Maxwel Cornet in the summer.

The manager is under growing pressure with the club hovering around the relegation zone at the World Cup break and is due to be backed again in the winter window.

He also has headaches in the defensive department after Nayef Aguerd went off injured for Morocco against Spain on Tuesday night (6 December), but The Sun reports that the club are hoping to secure a deal for Luizao from Sao Paulo.

It was reported by both 90min and UoL Sport in Brazil on 5 December that a pre-contract agreement with the 20-year-old centre-back had already been reached, with medical tests set to start.

But the Irons appear set to be active still in January window in search of goalscoring help either way.

Incomplete

A year ago the supporters were desperate for reinforcements in the January window and none arrived, but after a fruitful summer they might feel like being careful what they wish for.

Heavy backing from the board was apparently what Moyes and the undermanned squad needed but instead West Ham have gone backwards.

Bad luck with injuries has played a major part, with Aguerd, Scamacca and Cornet all missing for significant periods, but the whole transfer haul has so far only shown flashes.

West Ham

With Paqueta shining in Qatar with Brazil the fans might be feeling a bit short changed that he is yet to find the net in a West Ham shirt, with three assists to his name from 14 appearances in all competitions.

Moyes has his own questions to answer as to whether he has properly managed the integration, especially with his confusing usage of Flynn Downes, and to some extent Cornet.

All in all the cohesive unit that made it all the way to the Europa League semi final last season has given way to an incoherent outfit that is struggling for an identity, and while more signings might hit on an answer it feels just as likely that they confuse things further.
