West Ham United to fully agree Julen Lopetegui appointment within days as deal close
West Ham United are close to agreeing a deal for Julen Lopetegui to succeed David Moyes at the London Stadium, according to Jacob Steinberg.
The Guardian journalist reported on Friday (3 May) that the Hammers are ready to part company with the Scotsman at the end of the Premier League season and talks with Lopetegui are gathering pace and an agreement could be reached in days.
So far, negotiations have not been concluded and the Irons will not make a final decision on Moyes’ future until the end of the campaign, but those in charge at West Ham are already actively looking for replacements.
Writing on X, he said: “Exclusive: West Ham close to agreeing a deal for Julen Lopetegui to take over from David Moyes. Not finalised and Amorim still in the mix but clarity expected soon.”

It has been clear for some time now that Moyes will be leaving the Hammers come the end of the season and while supporters will always be divided over the Scotsman, there is a feeling that this is the right time for the parties to part ways.
The former Manchester United boss will always be viewed as a hero for the European success he has brought to the London Stadium throughout his tenure, but performances and results in 2024 just simply haven’t been good enough.
Whether or not Lopetegui will be able to turn that around next term, should negotiations continue to progress, remains to be seen. The Spaniard impressed at Wolves and would likely play a more attacking and exciting brand of football.
However, it is clear that even despite this latest development, nothing is set in stone at the London Stadium and there could be one or two more twists in the tale yet. But it seems as though the Irons are close to having a new manager.
