West Ham United set to hold talks with David Moyes as sack pressure on, replacements looked at

West Ham plan to hold talks with David Moyes later in the season and are already eyeing up replacements, according to Jacob Steinberg.

The Guardian journalist shared via his personal Twitter page on Monday (12 February) that Moyes’ future will be determined by upcoming results.

Moyes was widely reported to be close to agreeing a new deal at London Stadium in December, but performances have nosedived since then.

“Despite positivity last month there’s now no guarantee that West Ham will end up giving David Moyes a new deal,” Steinberg said.

“Some still expect him to stay but recent form has changed the mood. Further talks planned later in the season, #whufc hoping to see improvement in results.

“Mood could change if [Lucas] Paqueta’s return improves the attack, some winnable games coming up, progress in Europe would also help Moyes.

“Always going to be ups and downs with a mid-table team, so there’s no panic. But West Ham have been looking at potential replacements.”

Sack pressure growing on David Moyes at London Stadium

The uncertainty over Moyes’ future is not ideal, but at the same time at least the club hold all the cards.

If the Scotsman is not going to be offered a new deal, United chiefs need to start thinking about who can take charge in the summer.

Graham Potter’s name is one that excites some fans, but he may not be out of work for much longer.

Ultimately, this all comes down to results. If United progress in Europe and regain form in the league, you would fancy Moyes to stay on.

If there are any more repeats of the shocking 6-0 loss versus Arsenal, or if the Europa League run ends in the last 16, the opposite may be true.

Moyes has not been helped by some key players being ruled out, but there can be no excuses whatsoever for heavy defeats.

This next block of fixtures spanning between now and the March international break really will determine whether or not Moyes stays on.
