West Ham United: Stuart Pearce fumes at ‘serial offender’ Lucas Paqueta in England v Brazil
Stuart Pearce dubbed West Ham ace Lucas Paqueta a “serial offender” after committing several fouls as England lost 1-0 to Brazil in an international friendly on Saturday (23 March).
The Hammers midfielder was booked 34 minutes into the match at Wembley, bringing John Stones down following a series of earlier fouls, and would end the match with six fouls to his name. [FotMob]
Members of the Three Lions squad were becoming frustrated, with some suggesting that the Brazilian should have been sent off, and Pearce was quick to pick up on the controversy.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Saturday (23 March, 7:40pm), the former England international said: “I think England players want Lucas Paqueta off now. He has been a serial offender already.”
West Ham United ace Lucas Paqueta causes drama at Wembley Stadium
Dubbing the 26-year-old a “serial offender” is one of the most accurate comments of the night, with Paqueta causing mischief all over the pitch during England’s loss in London.
As one of the most fouled players in the Premier League, with his trickery and skill on the ball lending himself to a few disgruntled kick-outs from opposition players.
He, of all players, knows that players can begin to become annoyed when things are not going their way, and frustration sets in. Maybe he felt it was time to get his own back.
There is no doubt that Paqueta is one of the most magical players in the top tier of English football, playing a similar role for David Moyes as Jack Grealish has been known to do for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

And on another night, with a different referee, and possibly in a competitive match, the West Ham man might have been sent for an early shower, as could Jude Bellingham after a full-blooded challenge on Bruno Guimaraes.
However, the match finished with all 22 men still on the pitch, with Brazil taking home a surprise 1-0 win against the Euro 2024 favourites.
