West Ham United starlet Pierre Ekwah set for loan move to Sunderland

West Ham sensation Pierra Ekwah is reportedly set to part ways with the club on loan in the January window to join Sunderland.

According to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the promising midfielder is expected to get game time at the Stadium of Light which is why he’s being loaned out.

The 21-year-old was at rivals Chelsea before he left them in order to join the Hammers and is now on the move again, albeit on a temporary basis.

Via his Patreon, Nixon wrote, “West Ham are ready to send French midfielder Pierre Ekwah to Sunderland on loan.

“Promising and versatile Ekwah could get game time with the Black Cats and comes within their strategy of raiding the under-21 market.

“Boss Tony Mowbray wants two or three new faces and was keen on experience. But Ekwah has become available and Hammers are happy to see him head for Wearside.”

Good move

Sunderland are a historically rich club, having one the First Division title on six occasions.

While they may not be the Premier League outfit they were over the past years, they’re still seen as a club on the rise.

West Ham United

Mowbray is an experienced and popular manager and his style of football has drawn him a number of fans in recent months.

He’ll be ideal for an up and coming player who just needs the game time to showcase why he’s being undervalued at the London Stadium.

A good season for him at the Stadium of Light could go a long way, especially given the crises David Moyes’ side is facing in that part of the pitch.

Declan Rice’s imminent departure will perhaps increase the need for bodies there and it remains to be seen if Ekwah can silence his critics and prove why he deserves to be a part of the senior setup for the 2023/24 season.
