West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus in Ghana first tonight
West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus will captain Ghana for the first time, as confirmed by his national side on social media.
The Black Stars posted on X [10 October] that Kudus will skipper the side for their contest against Sudan in Accra.
Kudus assumes the armband for the first time with qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations on the line – the game is a must-win as part of a double header with the Sudanese, having taken just one point from two group matches.
Ghanaian website Graphic Online [10 October] shared quotes aimed at Kudus and his teammates by the nation’s FA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, only building the pressure.
West Ham star Mohammed Kudus given key role to save Ghana
Kudus has a huge task on his hands to help save Ghana and ensure their passage into the tournament, which looks to see the odds stacked against them.
Following a draw and a defeat in their last two qualifiers, visitors Sudan – whom they face twice this week – and Angola lead the way in the group.
The attacking midfielder dons the armband in his hometown in front of expectant supporters, and if Ghana are not careful, it could go wrong very quickly and the crowd could become hostile.

The 24-year-old already has 36 caps and 11 goals for the senior national team, and has been a consistent performer for his country.
But plenty is on the line for the Black Stars which now coincides with his captaincy, leading fellow Premier League stars such as Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew.
