West Ham United social media team admission made after what Phil Foden did for Manchester City
West Ham United’s social media team hadn’t managed to post a “kickoff” tweet before Manchester City’s Phil Foden scored, according to Jack Gaughan.
The journalist reported in the Daily Mail’s Football Verdict pull-out (20 May, Page 3) that the English international’s strike came so early in proceedings that the Hammers had not even been able to tell their fans the game had started.
It was a tough afternoon for the Irons’ as David Moyes’ tenure at the London Stadium came to an end with a 3-1 defeat to the Premier League champions, with Mohammed Kudus’ spectacular strike little more than a consolation.
Will West Ham United appoint Julen Lopetegui after Manchester City loss?
Foden’s strike perhaps showed just why West Ham need a change of manager. While Moyes has done an incredible job in East London, this season his side have struggled and been too slow defensively far too often.
The space that Foden was afforded throughout the game was mental and although it can be hard to try and contain a player of that ability, the Hammers simply had to try and make life more difficult for the Manchester City star.
Julen Lopetegui will be keen to put his own stamp on the team when he arrives ahead of the summer transfer window and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the former Real Madrid manager gut out the defence in particular.

The likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd have come in for plenty of criticism this season for their inconsistent performances and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one or two of the players depart.
Hopefully, West Ham will be a bit more solid defensively by the time next season rolls around, otherwise Lopetegui may come under some early pressure.
In other West Ham news, Gary Neville admitted that he “cannot believe” what the Hammers did to Foden at the Etihad
