West Ham United slammed over ‘disgraceful’ club announcement, fans rightly fuming
Jacob Steinberg has slammed West Ham United after they announced ticket prices for the Aston Villa match.
The Hammers shared their ticket pricing for their opening Premier League clash against the Villans via X on 15 July.
The Guardian journalist Steinberg shared his view via X on 17 July. He said: “Truly disgraceful pricing from West Ham, cheapest U18 ticket for a child is £45.
“No wonder West Ham supporters are fuming. That’s for a Band 6 ticket for members. £50 on general sale. £85 for a kid in Band 1. For a game against Aston Villa.”
West Ham United announce Aston Villa ticket prices
With PSR and FFP becoming more important year-by-year in the Premier League, clubs have to be shrewd with their finances.
This has seen many up their prices from season tickets to match-by-match tickets which leave fans much worse off.
In regular ticket “bands”, the Hammers have set their prices, with £50 being the cheapest available to an adult while the top end is £85 on general sale.
While there are no easy games in the Premier League, a game against Aston Villa does not represent any form of rivalry to up the price.
Despite qualifying for the Champions League last season, the Villans aren’t the type of side that fans are going to pay over the odds to see games against.
With Julen Lopetegui coming in as manager, there will be plenty of intrigue ahead of his competitive Hammers debut, but fans will have no doubt been put off by the pricing of the game.
