West Ham United set to sign Nayef Aguerd with official announcement on Monday - Sky Sports
West Ham are set to announce the signing of Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd on Monday, 20 June, as revealed by Sky Sports News.
The Daily Star claimed on Thursday 16 June that the deal was in doubt after Newcastle United attempted to “hijack” the Hammers’ move for the Rennes defender.
However, it appears that David Moyes has got his man with Sky Sports reporting on Friday (17 June) on their live transfer blog at 12:37pm that paperwork will be completed over the weekend before a potential announcement on Monday.
What a relief
Barring a major development over the weekend, it looks as if Aguerd will be a West Ham player and that is a huge relief for Moyes.
The Hammers’ defence was very much to blame for their poor form towards the end of the season with Moyes’ side gifting too many easy goals.

West Ham rarely struggled for goals in the 2021/22 campaign so it is good to see Moyes focussing on areas that desperately need improving.
Aguerd will provide competition for West Ham’s current centre halves and allow for Moyes to rotate his very small squad more often.
The Irons looked tired and leggy towards the back end of the 2021/22 season and Moyes must rectify that issue heading into the 2022/23 campaign.
In other West Ham news, the club have “nothing to add” when asked about the proposed Birmingham City takeover that may involve David Sullivan.
