West Ham United set to battle Newcastle to sign Gabigol
West Ham and Newcastle could battle it out for the signing of Flamengo striker Gabigoal, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Writing in his column for Give Me Sport, the former Bleacher Report journalist, suggests that Wolves are also exploring the situation to sign the striker.
The player’s agent is looking at the possibility to take the Brazilian to the Premier League, and other clubs will be given the chance to snap him up.
Great scoring record
The Hammers showed interest in signing the 25-year-old striker in the January transfer window.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Tuesday [4 January, 05:16pm], Dharmesh Sheth reported that Gabriel Barbosa, who’s also known as Gabigol, would like to speak to the Hammers if the London outfit come up with a sizeable offer.
It was reported that if West Ham were to sign the 25-year-old Brazil international, it would be a loan-to-buy deal worth £25million.
The deal didn’t materialise in the end, but the Hammers have a great chance here to sign the striker this summer.
His scoring record for Flamengo is outstanding. He has managed 118 goals in 167 appearances for Flamengo, and has scored over 200 goals in his career.
Apart from one season with Inter Milan, he has played his entire career in Brazil. However, he feels that the time has come for him to test his calibre in the best league in the world.
West Ham desperately need to sign a striker this summer, and Gabigol would be a cracking addition.
