West Ham United sensation Pierre Ekwah set to join Sunderland permanently

West Ham sensation Pierre Ekwah is set to join Championship club Sunderland in the “coming hours”, as reported by Foot Mercato.

The 21-year-old is a versatile midfielder who has been making great progress for the under-21 side. He is highly rated by the club, but it appears that he will sign a long-term contract with the Black Cats.

He is convinced by the project at Sunderland who are 9th in the Championship table, where he is likely to get first-team football.

No way.

This is not good enough if the information is true. The Hammers cannot simply let go of the talented players so easily.

Last summer, they sold Sonny Perkins to Leeds United, and they are likely to lose Harrison Ashby as well. If they are to lose another exciting prospect in Ekwah, surely the club has to take a hard look at the current system.

It’s understandable that David Moyes cannot use him in the starting line-up on a weekly basis, but these young players need to get exposure as well.

It will be really frustrating to see Ekwah leave the club on a permanent deal. A loan move would have been ideal for his development, but to lose him permanently simply makes no sense.

He is seen as one of the most talented young midfielders to be coming out of the academy, and it’s the club’s responsibility to nurture them.

Like Perkins and others, Ekwah feels that moving elsewhere is the best option for him at the moment. It’s sad really.
