West Ham United send scouts to watch Edson Alvarez and Ibrahim Sangare

West Ham United have sent scouts to Holland and they’ve been impressed by midfield duo Edson Alvarez and Ibrahim Sangare, according to 90min.

The Irons are on the lookout for new midfielders and could be tempted to make a January move for either Alvarez, 25, or Sangare, 24, who are both said to be keen on a move to the Premier League should the right opportunity come around.

West Ham are aware that more reinforcements are needed in the middle of the pitch despite signing Flynn Downes in the summer from Swansea City.

Alvarez is currently a key player at Ajax who are battling in the Champions League right now while Sangare is starring for PSV Eindhoven with both clubs flying high in the Eredivisie.

Sangare, an Ivorian international, only signed his new deal in Eindhoven in the summer following interest from elsewhere but he is still open to leaving the club if a suitable offer arrives.

Energy

Downes has joined Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in the midfield department along with academy graduate Conor Coventry but there is still something lacking for David Moyes.

Whether that is depth or just something a little bit different is hard to quantify but both Sangare and Alvarez would add that new flair and energy to the team that is sometimes desperately lacking.

Rice and Soucek, in particular, need that challenge from behind them having been a very comfortable partnership for a few years now and the performances of the latter are starting to fall as a result of the lack of challenge from within the squad.

The biggest problem West Ham may run into in pursuing these two is the prices they may require having already splashed well over £100million in the summer window to sign plenty of fresh blood.

It might be best served for the Irons to wait until the summer when they have a bigger war chest to play with.
