West Ham United seek FA clarification after Chelsea VAR controversy

West Ham United will meet with the Football Association next week to discuss numerous VAR decisions, according to The Athletic.

The Hammers were already due to meet with the sport’s governing body in England prior to their 2-1 defeat away at Chelsea on Saturday but they intend to bring up one incident from the game at Stamford Bridge.

Maxwel Cornet thought he had bagged his first goal for West Ham to level the scores in the 90th minute but the goal was overturned after Jarrod Bowen was adjudged to have fouled Edouard Mendy.

The decision, which no Chelsea players were arguing against prior to VAR’s intervention, was met with wholesale disagreement from Irons players and media.

David Moyes and the club’s hierarchy will therefore discuss that issue, along with many others that they have disagreed with, this week with the FA.

Typical

The big six always seem to get the favourable decisions and that’s often because they are attacking more often but this is just ridiculous and almost scandalous.

Cornet and Moyes have every right to feel incensed at the decision made by VAR and you would struggle to find a Chelsea fan or player who also thinks it was a foul.

After the tough start to the season Moyes’ men went through, the last thing they need is for the officials in charge to be making such obvious howlers at a crucial time in the game.

If that were to rule out the sixth goal in a rout either way then not as much would be made of it but this denied West Ham a deserved point on the road and that will be what aggrieves them the most.

Hopefully, this discussion will spark some very important talks and changes with the way VAR is used and these kinds of disasters don’t happen again.
