West Ham United season a ‘write-off’ as new Mohammed Kudus development emerges

Tom Rennie has labelled West Ham United’s season a “write-off” after the confirmation of Mohammed Kudus’ new punishment.

The Ghanaian was sent off during the 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last month, being handed a three-match suspension, but now the club and the player have been charged by the FA [The FA Official website].

Following the incident, the Hammers have been fined £30,000, and with Kudus admitting to his charge, the player has been suspended for a further two games and has been charged £60,000.

Reacting to the news, talkSPORT broadcaster Rennie wrote via X [6 November]: This season for West Ham United is a write-off.”

West Ham United already looking ahead to 2025/26 campaign?

While it has been a hugely disappointing start under Julen Lopetegui, it seems a little drastic to already be thinking ahead to the next campaign just 10 matches into the Premier League season.

There is certainly plenty of work to do at the London Stadium, with the Irons only claiming 11 points from their first 10 league games, which sees them sit just six points above the relegation zone.

David Sullivan splashed the cash during the summer transfer window, helping Lopetegui to bring a number of exciting talents to the club, but those transfers do not look to have helped much.

Kudus’ sending-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has definitely not helped proceedings, already seeing him miss games against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, and Everton up next.

Now, the 24-year-old is also set to be unavailable to face Newcastle United and Arsenal, making Lopetegui’s job much harder after a torrid start to life in East London.

The manager will need the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Crysencio Summerville to be at the top of their game over the next few fixtures, especially now after the news of Kudus’ extended ban.
