West Ham United scouts at under-21 international with Newcastle and many others

West Ham scouts were sent to the highly popular under-21 international between Denmark and Croatia alongside 38 other clubs, according to TV2.

Premier League rivals Newcastle, both Manchester giants, and Bournemouth were also in attendance, as well as two Championship sides and teams from eight other countries.

Most of the Bundesliga had representatives present, including both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, plus Jose Mourinho’s Roma and many others.

The likes of Ajax youngster Mohamed Daramy have been linked to Rangers who were there [Daily Record], and Manchester City have reportedly previously watched Hajduk Split’s Stipe Biuk [Germanijak], but it is unclear who the Hammers have their eye on from the two line-ups.

Croatia triumphed in the European Championship play-off after a penalty shoot-out, with the second leg ending 2-1 to Denmark and 3-3 on aggregate.

Due diligence

The Irons will obviously have plenty of competition if they are to make a move in the near future for any of the youngsters on display on Tuesday (27 September).

It will be no surprise to anyone at the London Stadium that Newcastle were also in attendance, and should an approach be made for any of the players then it would be a safe bet that the Magpies won’t be far behind based on how the summer window went.

On the whole West Ham were able to come out on top despite Eddie Howe’s side having an involvement in the races for the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Armando Broja, Maxwel Cornet, and Alphonse Areola’s permanent deal.

West Ham

But some of the other sides who were represented at the Vejle Stadium will likely prove to be stiffer competition in a head-to-head battle, although the likes of Paris Saint-Germain were overcome to sign Gianluca Scamacca.

Amid a thoroughly underwhelming start to the season the club need to be doing everything they can to look for ways to improve fortunes, and if that includes signing up-and-coming gems in January then it has to be investigated.

But at the moment the problems aren’t in the market, they are in the squad once they arrive, as David Moyes has yet to be able to call on Aguerd at all through injury, and doesn’t seem to want to hand the reigns to Scamacca or Cornet in the league despite good performances in the Europa Conference League, and not to Flynn Downes at all.

There is plenty amiss at the moment, and fans will be desperate to see an improvement after the international break, but whoever the Irons are looking at in the Danish and Croatian set-ups to potentially improve things, they were far from alone.
